x2 nice write up, bud.
couple of observations -- if you wanted, you could make more shavings of the abs plastic, and mix it with ammounts of ABS cement to make 'liquid abs plastic' that will melt in with the surrounding area, making the patch part of the rest again, negating the jb weld.
second... that's still too much work for me
-- i have a mount from humount.com Mark's a good guy to work with, and the product is good, too.

Thanks, I will have to try that abs cement trick. Although I usually use 2 part glue, and that cant get any simpler. Jb weld or cold weld, is usually considered a redneck fix, but used in a situation like this it really holds well and last for years.
As far as the humount.com mount, I love them but a lot of people people don't want to pay 90 dollars for an non-illuminated mount. Even though they are awesome, this gives you the chance to make your own and customize it to your liking.
Plus it only costs around 30 dollars total, or even less for the people that keep this stuff aroundthe house.

yeah I went with an el cheapo myself due to the hu mount being so expensive

here's the best way to do it... humount.com... this guy is so helpful and is a really good guy, they're decent in price for what you're getting too... 80 bucks shipped for something to light up blue and say Grand Prix or your own custom lettering

okay so heres the deal, this write up is not to down anybody elses company. It is for you to be proud of your own work, and actually fabricate something.
Actually pricing on grand prix mounting kits from humount.com, the cheapest is 65 dollars, and 20 dollars extra for illumination, then another 25 dollars for customs lettering.
So you are at 105 dollars for a mounting kit? its cool and all in its own right, but I will just do my method and then take it to the airbrusher for about the same amount if not less.
Moral of the story, the "best" way to do it is a matter of opinion and not the point of this how to. If you could next time advertise in your own thread please. I plan on making a lot of how to threads and don't want advertising in them to become habit.

toasty I thought the last pic, even though it wasn't that good showed that I did sand the whole thing and so I assumed people would catch that. Although I can see how some people might be unclear and leave it half textured.
Archamedes a how to on texturing is a good idea, there is really no write ups on how to do this and it is a very frequently asked question. I think this might be my next one depending on what project I finish first.
oh... and to add to the original instructions in this thread... dont forget to sand the WHOLE face of the bracket, not just the body filler... if you leave the top textured, it might look funny.
