How To: LED Fog Lights/Stock Brackets (97-03)

Copying how I did my previous Piaa/HID/Fog set-up, I started with some Morimoto XB LED for lights from The Retrofit Source, some stock fog lights, and some old 9007 and 880 bulbs; I kept the HID wiring harness in play, so needed and adapter harness to go from 9007 to 880.

The XB LED kit:

Stock lights from the junkyard:

Remove the lenses from the stock lights:

Remove all this crap from the XB LED’s:

Apply adhesive to the inside edge of the stock housing, and to the outside edge of the LED light and join the two together:

After the adhesive has cured, remove the glass from the 880 bulb and solder it to the LED light wires:

Lights are done:

Remove the glass from the 9006 bulbs, solder wire to them, then solder the other end of the wires to the 880 plug:

Attach the stock bracket to the lights (they aren't pretty, but you won't see this part of them in a few minutes):

All done!

Nice job, interesting as I was looking at these, XB setup. I think it needs to sit a little more forward, but is good stuff.

Nice job,
Thanks.

I think it needs to sit a little more forward.....
I agree. That is the one thing still bothering me. I've been thinking about a spacer to go between the bumper and light mount, maybe 1"; I meant to do a side by side comparison of these lights and the old ones, but I missed that step. LOL

Here is how my old lights sat:

Yes, I think because the output is so much more intense, and to get some additional side lighting, I would bring it forward a bit. Will probably do the XB Led's soon and will benefit from your trial and error ; ) hehehe, but they do throw a lot of light for sure.

Why not just get a 880 hid harness for the fog harness?
1) I already had the current harness
2) I wasn't sure if the LEDs would be staying
3) Making the harness cost me nothing but a few minutes to make
4) I could have just used the stock 880 plugs, but see #2

Hows that? :)

If I do decide to keep these LED's, I will remove the old HID wiring harness/ballasts' and return to the stock wiring plugs.

Lol #1 would've been fine. But why solder to the 9007 bulbs socket, just change to 880 plugs.
I had typed 9007 in the write-up. It should read 9006 and has been edited.

The HID harness is a 9006 plug where it connects to the ballast; unplug ballast, plug HID harness into my adapter harness, then to the LED's. Now if I want to return to the old lights, I can.
