ok so i know for a fact the lower the miles the better but how hardy is the engine w/ 100..120+k miles?! and if so whats the best, pricewise?! im in houston if that helps any

What year? And it depends on who owned it, and if they took care of it. I was taught, if the body looks great, chances are, that they took care of it mechanically. Hope my tid bit helps.

IN General, the engines should last a good while. But GTPluv is right, it depends on who owned it and whether they took care of it. A decently well maintained GP should last well beyond 100K miles and even past 200K.

Ohh yeah, it's not the engine, it's the trans that's the weeakest link. I get scared about any trans over 100K unless I have service records.

a salvage yard will sell and ship a 3800 engine with 200k on it, they will not do that with any of the asian brands if that says anything

I have 159K on mine and I just got back from a 2200 mile one way trip to Canada with NO issues...Still take it to the track and runs in the 13's, but I can tell there is a little power loss, but I am planning to do a rebuild in the near future.

lol i love you guys, thanks you set my mind at ease! im gonna look into a 00-03! and im not gonna worry about miles anymore. just price lol.. from a private seller it looks liek 100k+ is around 4 grand from a dealer 80-90k is around like 8... :/ so ima gonna look into a private seller. and i've seen alot of nice well taken care of cars.. i just need my dads sig for a loan and he's being a stiffler

I love this forum!

If you looking to buy one there is a real easy test......

Look at the back side of the supercharger pulley. If there are any dents or creases, the car has been modded and put back to stock.

You can also look under the car and see if it still has a U-Bend or performance mufflers.

Bottom line is you have to take it for a test drive and I would take it to a trusted mechanic and have them do a thorough check before buying.

i bought my 99gtp with 92000 on it for 5000 if that says anything. The car was in emaculate condition with every option including leather

personally maybe its just me but i dont care for the 03 + bod style.

Don't like '03's huh! LOL think you meant '04+. I'm driving a buddy's '04 right now while he's in the service and I love it. Only thing I don't like is they dropped the two door.

There are just a handful of engines I would trust buying with over 100k on them, the 3800 is one of them. It has a well established history. As someone mentioned, the tranny is another matter and without some type of well established maintenance history I would be a little on edge.

yea i was looking for the 03 or older model, iw as looking at that blue one.. but theres like 4-5 2 door black one w/ right around 100k for 4grandish on craigslist.. just frustrated cause all i need is my dads damn signiture.. just so damn frustrating.. and thnx to yall im not to worried about mileage.. lower the better tho..

my original engine lasted 144K miles, would have been longer but I spun a bearing doing a 4500RPM burnout, :D then 2K miles later I trashed the tranny. My roommate has a 97 with 225K miles, still running strong.
