How do I bleed the cooling system?

yep , i'd do the flush. here's the official ScottyDoggs flush instructions.

how to flush coolant.

remove the t stat, put the t stat housing back on, take the upper hose off the radiator, then push it down to the ground to a bucket or let it fly.

get your garden hose out, put it in the rad turn it on, then fire up the car, let it run till clear water pumps out the top hose.

then turn the hose off, run the car till no more water comes out the upper hose. then turn it off.

put your t stat back in, with new gasket, the upper hose back on.

now take 1 gallon of full strength green antifreeze, not the 50/50 crap. ( parts store cheap green is fine to use) dump the whole gallon in the radiator, fire up the car, fill the rad with hose water till its full. top as needed till its ready to be bled of air. it will burp and take coolant as the water in the block warms up the t stat opens up for a few seconds till cold coolant hits it and it shuts again.

now to bleed the air out, let it idle rad cap off till the fans turn on, (when the fans are on the temp is over 195 deg, the t stat is wide open) then open the bleeder screw on top the t stat housing a few turns till a steady stream of coolant comes out the hole, shut the screw, top off the rad. cap it.

done.

Perfect! Thank you so much for posting that! I was wondering what a good process was to do the flush and fill! I do however remember reading something about the aluminum content of our engines and green coolant not being advisable?

Brammer please flush asap! Those miracles in a bottle do more damage than good. From personal experience I'm convinced that the abrasive material in that goop makes lim gaskets leak worse and damage the water pump. I say NO to any coolant leak stop and I think everyone here would agree.

Btw what lim gaskets did you use? aluminum?

Flushed it out this weekend! I used Felpro aluminum gaskets!

Also, for everyone else still following this, I followed ScottyDogg's flush instruction and I still can't get it flushed 100%. The temperature still floats at times and goes up to the 210 mark and then comes back down.

Pulled the thermostat out, pulled the top hose off the rad, pointed it down at a bucket. Popped the rad cap off, put the hose in it and turned it on, fired up the car and let it run until clear. Removed the hose and let the car run until water stopped coming out. Hose back on, thermostat back in, filled the rad with straight coolant (1 gallon), and topped it off with water. Left the rad cap off, fired up the car, kept the hose running and added water to the rad as it needed it. When the fans came on and the top hose started getting hot I opened the bleed valve and left it open until it quit sputtering and a stream came out. Closed it, topped the rad off and capped it. What did I miss?

Sounds like you did it all except jacking it up but I don't think you need to. Last gtp flush I did I waited for it to get hot with the cap off and revved the motor right before it hits the limiter and poured coolant in and put the radiator cap on. That's how I usually fill cooling systems until I found Scotty write up. The temp fluctuation sounds normal. My grandfather's gtp does that sometimes, goes over 210 and falls back down. The most important thing is to watch that temp guage and the coolant level. Bill or Scotty can correct me or chime in
