The other day I raced a GXP (to about 60) and we were neck and neck. Anyway we ran from a stop light. I gained my traction and floored it (not stompped it, I slowly brought it to the floor). I noticed i wasnt getting the strong pull that I get during normal driving, when I drop a gear and get the S/C to kick in.

For example,

Im driving doing about 35, and I push the pedal about 75% in. The car will grab me and I will get the pushed back in the seat feeling.

At a launch I begin to give it gas then near WOT, and it does not pull like the above.

I hope this makes sense. It may just be me. I wanted to see what you guys had to say about this.
 


Well. I kind of understand what you're saying. You're already going 35 and when it downshifts it may just seem like it's going faster becuase of the shorter time it's in first before it changes into second compared to the length of time from a dead stop.


Just a thought.


But again the power should be the same. So im not sure.

Maybe because you don't or cant floor it right off the bat becuase of wheelspin it feels like it is slower than it really is compared to when you're going 35mph with no wheelspin at WOT?

Cant think of anything mech. that could go wrong to cause that.
 
Im almost postivie its just me. I just wanted to see if you guys had the same experience. I think I just need to mod more :D
 
3 to 1 or 2 to 1 downshift = feeling of massive torque since your RPMS want to be back up where they were, the motor will rev quick.

Rolling from 1 to 2 won't feel this way since your motor is climbing from a lower RPM.

Normal.
 


It comes down to one of Newton's laws "An object in motion tends to stay in motion". Your changing the amount of acceleration at a greater interval when flooring it at 35 the easing into WOT in first gear. Possible make sense? If not let me know and ill try to explain better.

Your taking a heavy object not moving and getting all that weight to start moving, compared to that same heavy object already having all the weight in motion. It's easier to get something already moving to move faster, than it is from a dead stop.

Yup thats correct except the car "not moving" is the car coasting at 35 MPH which technically has no acceleration going on. So with this said you yourself are going to have a greater force exerted on you from the seat pushing you forward than if you were easing into WOT. If your still kinda cloudy I'll see what i can do to explain it a little better. Hope this helps
