Horrible growl from driveline

I have a 230,xxx mile 07 base GP that makes a aweful growling noise and mild vibration whenever it's moving.
It's had multiple hubs and axles put on in the last 30,000 miles and the noise is still there. We've lifted then front of the car off the ground and ran the car and it still makes the noise. I can put my foot against the passengers tire to stop it which in turn makes just the drivers side spin And the noise stops.
If I put my foot against the drivers tire to make the passengers side spin the noise gets really bad. While the pass tire is spinning I have taken a rubber hose used it as a stethoscope and ran down the axle and around the hub...nothing. No strange noises at all. So I've concluded the noise is from the trans or differential.
Any ideas of what the noise could be? Any common problems?

Did you ever figure this one out?
Nope, I'm just going to say that it's a bearing or bushing in the transaxle that's gone bad. The car is getting sold to a relative with a body shop next week for parts. With the mileage that's on it we didn't think it was worth $500 or $1000 to fix.

Ours is an 06 with 135k. I fooled with it over the weekend and am pretty sure it's all wheel noise. I rotated the front tires side to side and the noise was there but did sound like maybe it was coming from the right instead of the left. Swapped the tires front to back and the noise went away. I've done bearings and lots of suspension over the last year so I didn't think it was any of that. Looks like its time for new tires. Thanks for getting back.
