Holy S*** KR off the hook!

I just started messing with the HPTuners I have. So far all I've done is changed speed limiter, tire size, and lowered the lower end of throttle position shift points a little to make it shift a little sooner.
Stock and with what I did I'm seeing up to 15 degrees KR! And thats on a stock 3400!!!! Well mostly stock, intake, downpipe, and catback.
I don't even know what to think of this.
It get's high KR at wot. but also right when the trans shifts at lower rpm like the trans is maybe lugging or somthing. But i don't hear or feel anything. And when the tc is locked in 4th at lower rpm, if I give it gas the kr climbs higher the more gas I give it. There's really no kr in the midrange of the rpm band, only very high and lower. But I noticed if I put it in nuetral I can rev it all the way up and get nothing. Only when there is a load on it does it show up.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Go back to stock tune completely stock that includes the tire change you made and scan agan BTW why did lower shift points most people raise them. Its user preference but can't understand why u want it that way

To go back to stock, do I just open the stock saved tune and write the calibration to the car?
And I lowered because for normal driving i want it to shift a little sooner. I let up on the gas to let it shift as soon as possible but I wanted it to just shift instead of having to let up on the throttle. I don't drive my car hard, mostly normal driving I just try to get decent mpg.

Yup whatever you had saved for your factory tune to verify just go under edit history logs/change log click history log tab and make sure there's nothing there. And as always write calibration only the only time you write entire is initially and if you upgrade to another os

Cool thanks for the info. I'll do that tomorrow and report back what kr I see. For reference, I did test out just the gauge feature and remember seeing kr at least up to 8 degrees.

Cool also try the vcm scanner cylinder. Balance test just to see if you potentially have real engine issues. BTW make sure your on the latest version of HP tuners 2.24 .

Yep downloaded the latest 2.24 version. Ok I see the balance test on the scanner. Shows rpm and tps. What exactly am I looking for with those? Or does it tell me after it has done the test? I'm sorry, but this is the very first time I've used the software.
On a side note, do you know, know someone, or a place to look for basic info on exactly what I can do to start a tune. I don't want anything supercharger specific and I'm really not looking into the fuel stuff yet, or at least not until I'm comfortable with the software and have a wideband. But I'd like to get some more power and economy out of the engine to start with. A major one would be how to lock the converter. HATE how it unlocks if not on the throttle in 4th.

You'll see the results after the test runs. I'm still learning myself but I made small changes at a time the biggest headache is deciphering all the crap on HP tuners forums most of the tables I didn't understand then I just Google their function and use that information to make adjustments to my tune.you can look in the HP tuners forums and start sifting through stickies and other threads relevant to your plat form.

Thanks for the link I'll check it out

So here is the engine balance test:
RPM. TPS
704. 0.1
#1 705 - 100%. 0.1 - 92%
#2 711 - 101%. 0.1 - 125%
#3 719 - 102%. 0.1 - 143%
#4 709 - 101%. 0.1 - 89%
#5 703 - 100%. 0.1 - 111%
#6 706 - 100%. 0.1 - 87%

KR on wot is 9 and after shifting low into 3rd or 4th gear it's showing up to 15 degrees...

And WTF now my head unit won't turn off when the key is out and door is open. It just stays on constantly. Nothing else doesn't just the radio

It's normal to see loads of KR on a stock normally aspirated engine. I had a 2002 impala with the 3.8 and saw like 10 degrees all the time.

Ok your the second person that's said that. So what can I do to lower it?
And I really need to get the radio thing figured out because it's gonna drain my battery if I leave it. Just the radio nothing else stays on

You could disconnect the battery for a while and reconnect and reflash your stock calibration again make sure when flashing that you have a good charge on the battery. Also kr is something you're gonna have to deal with till you dig into that tune. Lookup guides on tuning ve and maf then get your spark table right however before tuning you need to make sure you have proper plugs wires etc....

Cylinder balance is usually used to determine if you have an injector/cylinder that is out of whack. If you really had a bad cylinder, the good ones would show more RPM drop as you have more than one down when the cylinder balancetest runs.

whats the status on base maintnece of your car though? plugs/wires etc..

Honestly not good. Stock everything at 113k. I bought Delco plugs but never decided on wires. I've been trying to get the fuel filter off for months but it's rusted on. Guess I'll just have to take it in and let them deal with it. Also need to switch my hai for a cai as I'm sure that's causing it. I was seeing iat's as high as 135 degrees.
So after I hook the battery back up, turn it to run and write the stock calibration again, correct?

yea well first see if the radio stays on after that if it does then re-write calibration only again if that dosent work i dont know what to tell you other than pulling the fuse for the radio till you figure it out...get that basic maintnence out the way man and look into the 3.4 section as im sure theyll know what wires etc to recomend best of luck

High IAT's will just retard timing and have little affect on KR with that car.

And they should only reach that temp if you arent moving, IAT while driving along are almost always near ambient.
