Hmmm Trans Can't Make Up It's Mind

Well lately ive been noticing that my transmission cant seem to make up its mind between 2nd and 3rd or 3rd and 4th. Especially when im going up hill at a steady pace the trans just shifts between 2nd and 3rd or 3rd and 4th (depending on my speed) multiple times. I shifts between the two about 4ish times before it makes up its mind. It does this is all the time now and sometimes when i have my cruise on also. So i just did a full Transmission Fluid Flush and filter 4 days ago and its still doing it. What now?!

That sounds like engine related problems. If you have an ohm meter, check the TPS. Also clean the MAF and pull the MAP sensor and check the hole for plugging.

its an engine problem that the trans cant make it up its mind? plus no metal chunks in the pan so thats a good sign also.

Well I mean...trans flushes...most of the time kill these transmissions...because the old fluid is holding the hard parts together.

well thats good to know. the mechanic said my trans fluid was disgusting, very dirty, and super dark red. so my trans is going to blow up on me basically?

I'm not going to say it will, because you never know...but everyone I've seen that has done that locally...yeah, they failed within the next year or less.

So you should never flush the trans fluid and let it get super dirty?

time to start saving for a rebuild. Cant wait to blow a grand on some dumb s***

Well, if the car had regular flushes done every 40-50K, it'd be just fine...but not after three times that ya know?

Pan drop and filter change with a shift kit would have been the route I would have taken.

i thought about a shift kit cause they arent too expensive, but i didnt want to put any more stress on the trans (if it even does). But this was happening even BEFORE the trans flush was done. i got the flush done because i felt this starting to happen.

Shift kit and a tune do nothing but HELP the transmission...less TQ. Management and quicker shift times are winning.

Not according to ZZP, your favorite place.

ZZP says their shift kit can cause hard parts failure but does prevent clutch from slipping.

I'd bet it does cause failures when you put bendy straw parts in your transmission; that's why I say get the Intense Kit.

ZZP shift kit: $40

Intense: $99

Anyways, this isnt helping my problem, the trans would make it up its mind before the trans flush, now i got it flushed because this was happening to hopefully fix the issue, and it still isnt fixed. Plus no metal chunks in pan.

Right.

Point is, the shift kit could prolong the life of it, along with a tune...but think about it...if the flush didn't fix the issue, then there was probably an underlying issue to begin with...that's all.

ok trans flush at that miles is bad.

did they also change the filter? most of the time they just take the lines off the rad and swap fluid and boot you out the door. if thats the case, drop the pan and change the filter.

if you can catch your old fluid/new that was just put in, in a clean pan, and re use it. ( i would) but put a quarts of some trans medic in it when you refill it.

in the future just so you know. 9/10 times a fluid flush wont fix a trans problem, but only make it worse.

seen to many cars leave the shop on a tow truck due to a trans flush with high mileage.

being that most of us are not the original owners of these cars its really not safe to do a flush with out knowing how the trans was serviced before you got it. thats why pan drop and filter is always recommended, only 1/2 the fluid gets changed.

i also have a shift kit in my trans, not sure what one, but if im not in perf shift mode, i dont know its there, hit the button and you know its there. it shifts hard enough where you would think it should be chirping the tires.

Trans filter was also changed, thankfully.

So your saying drop the pan, catch all the new fluid that was just put in, and re-use the fluid?

What will that do?

The shop also said bring the car back after a little bit and they will drop in some trans additive to help it out. I dont know what though
