High idle in every gear

Why do i keep having issues after i fix something?!?! OK... In the past couple days this problem has crept up.. The car is fine when i first turn it on.. The idle is right as it should be... but then as i start driving around and it warms up, the rpms are high in every single gear. When i come to a traffic light in drive, the rpms are at 1500 if i switch it into nuetral it goes up to 2000 - 3000, same if i put it in park. I have replaced the throttle position sensor and just replaced the idle air control valve with no change in behavior.. Any ideas where to start looking next? Possible vacuum leak?

possible vacuum leak, your throttle cables are sticking, or when you changed the IAC you messed it up.

How in the world could i mess up the IAC when replacing it? You take the part and it goes right in and then reattach the wire plug. I read that when you replace the TPS and IAC your supposed to disconnect the plugs for them and then remove the negative from the battery for 10 seconds to reset it... is this something to try?

I reset the pcm tonight after cleaning the pcv to eliminate that as the cause and now the SES light is on. I'm relieved because now that might help figure out the issue.. going to find out what code is showing tomorrow.. will update.

It's quite possible you put the TPS on incorrectly. There is a way to mess it up.

Scanner would help tremendously. And..I doubt things keep happening. Likely it's something you touched.. (just saying, been there..done that)

Jesus.. have some faith.. its not the tps!!! Codes were for egr valve.. taking it off and cleaning it real good shortly.

I have faith....that often it's the last thing we messed with that causes the issue that pops up suddenly afterward.

I was naive at one point in my life. Then I became experienced, you'll find much of my diagnosis starts with .."What have you recently done?" lol

Which EGR code?

It was doing this before i replaced the TPS.. then i replaced it and still doing same thing. I forget the exact code.. I took it off and cleaned it very thouroghly with about a can of cleaner... put it back on after it dried and still doesnt work right... Im really suspecting its a vacuum leak.. giving up and taking it to my mechanic tomorrow morning to take a look. Will update.

If you suspect and EGR vaccum type leak. Pull the tube from teh EGR to the LIM. Pull the piece that holds it to the lim back and look at the integrity of the tube in the light.

There is no vacuum with your 6 cylinders pushing exhaust through that pipe.

When the egr is closed though and the tube is cracked..it's the one between the valve and LIM that would potentially be a very common leak on these motors

FYI... back to the TPS.. The one i installed is a bwd TPS.. I didnt bother doing any adjusting.. straight from the box:

BWD TPS maintain specific installed outputs to match OE rather than adjustable consolidated designs

So i am good with that right?

Tell us what TPS position or voltage reads with your foot off the throttle and the car idling in any gear. That's how we can tell if your TPS is working/installed properly. Technically you shouldn't have to do any adjusting.
