• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

HID's or Projectors or ??? Please Educate Me And Help Me Decide...

Okay, here's where I'm at. I've been reading a LOT of posts, both here and searching the web, and am more confused than before. I'm not afraid of doing most work on my car, but when it comes to electrical work, well, I tend to shy away from it...lol.

With all the "horror" stories I've read about bouncing, turn signal lights blinking fast or not working at all, high beams not working (or "useless"), poor fit from the companies, having to "mod" the housings/bulbs, etc., etc., ETC., I'm afraid to even order a pair. I really want to know if there is any company out there who has a plug and play version that a non-electrician can install and have the lights work as they should, right out of the box. I would like to have the 6000K color/output lights.

My car is a '97 GT, uses one bulb for both highs and lows (stock). I don't have DRL, but I do have the auto lights. Don't get me wrong, I am capable of splicing a few wires together, if need be, but am not into shaving the back of the housings or anything like that.

Thank you very much, in advance, for any and all help you can throw my way!!

spyder ccfl projectors are great and have a nice cutoff/output with HIDS but require some work to make them nice (no bounce mods/you have to disassemble and file the bulb inlet to fit an HID bulb.) but i love them and the ccfls are nice. BEST IMO tho is retrofitted black stockheadlights....thats alot of fab work tho. I was gonna make some but got lazy and bouught my black ccfl projectors and im happy as can be :)

btw dash z projectors look like alien eyes they're ugly as fukk sorry nawarrk haha

Is there anyone good here that could do the fab work for me, as in I buy whatever is the best set and have someone do whatever it takes to make them right before I install them? I knew by asking what I did that there would/will be many different opinions, just trying to get it right before I get in over my head and have to end up having someone else finish what I started/screwed up...lol.

I've read your write up and it's very good, nawarkk!

Thank you both for your opinions......

I'll have to agree, those do look nice. I think I will get the Spyders, but which color? Black or chrome? My GT is red...which color is yours, BoostJunki3? I think I'm leaning more towards the black set...decisions, decisions...lol.

Thanks to all who gave input on this!!! It doesn't seem like it'll be all that hard to do...

One last thing - who should I buy them from? Is there a vendor here that sells them, as opposed to a company outside of this forum? "Support your local business"...

I just went back and was re-reading...yours are black.

These are the same quality that I would get from any other vendor? eBay is a fav of mine, but when it comes to something like this, I want to be 110% sure that they aren't seconds or anything like that. You understand, I'm sure, that some eBay companies have been known to sell cut rate parts...

where i got mine from and they are fine.

I am planning on getting projectors and HID's but I think I would prefer the LED versions not the CCFL's. Anyone have any thoughts?

Both :)
(but mine came stock that way)

In all honesty from what i have seen most retrofit projectors suck for light output. Mainly for the fact the lens of the housing was made for one type of lighting system so regardless of the system you put in it is still hurt my the factory lens.

Id go hids and spend the time aiming them. From looking at pics from projectors in the other post they dont throw out enough side light. It looks like most of the light is concentrated at the center then it losses its light output off center. It should not be that dramatic of a light change and should stay at a pretty constant light out point to the designed cut off.
