HIDs and stock fog light capsules

I did a search and didn't get the answer I was looking for. If there is a thread already on this then please delete this one and point me towards it.

My question is I just ordered a HID fog light kit (bulb 880) and I was hearing some horror stories of these HID bulbs being too big and not fitting in the stock fog light capsules or melting the stock fog light capsules.

So can someone tell me if I'll need to get new fog light capsules or not? Will the HID kit work for the stock capsules? I have a 2000 GT btw.

Thank you.

There are some that say their factory housings melted due the HID bulb being longer than the factory bulb and touching the plastic lens. Since you already ordered it try putting them on and see if you will have issues.

Well, I stuck them in and they don't touch the lens, so I think they are going to be ok. They get pretty hot though, I hope they don't melt them...

Ive read about them melting plastic also. Are there any HID kits that 100% wont melt the housing? Any projector lights made for 04+ that match the angel eyes fog lights?

what wattage?? I just bought some and went with 35 watt, not sure if it will make a difference

I've had the 35 watt hid's in my car for over a year now and it's been fine so far and i've had them on for hours at a time.

ive heard that you should be fine with 35watts, its when people get 55s that they melt the housings....

i just installed hids into my fogs yesterday, they didnt touch either. i like to drive with my fogs and halos on for ny driving lights so we will see how it goes
