Help with HID color?

My HID's dont seem to be very bright anymore. I am trying to figure out if the ballasts are bad or the bulbs? I replaced the bulbs 2 months ago. I have had the setup for a little over a year. Now...when I replaced the bulbs, one appeared brighter than the other from the get go. The bulbs said they were the 8000K but one side look purplish and the other blueish. What could be the problem???
