Recently my wife went to start my car (2001 GTP) and smoke starting rolling out from the dashboard. Called the insurance company, they came and took pics and said no fire no claim. They called it a "wire malfunction" what the **** is that? Basically in one area all the wires melted together under the dash and melted some plastic around it. I'm trying to just replace one wire at a time but I ran into about 8 solid orange wires 8 or so solid pink wires and a hand full of solid yellow wires. Now what do I do? I have no idea which orange, pink or yellow wire they go to. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will post pics shortly.

Ive searched junk yards with no luck plus im not sure if 97-03 had the same harness or do I need to find a specific model or year. I did find the part number on the harness 10305785.

wheres the wires burnt?

in the column your looking at the clock spring, the multi switch and ignition harness's all tie together so all could be f ed up.

to replace the whole thing is the best way other wise you will have more problems than you know. ecm going out, random check engine light, random abs light etc.

Directly behind the glove box about a 6 inch length of wire maybe 30 wires. I'll get pics up soon. Ive searched junk yards in my area and outside but have had no luck in over a month of searching. Nothing on ebay either.

this the fat harness thats entering the cars cab from the firewall? thats like the main harness if so.

thats not gonna be fun at all.

that guy idrivejunk, iirc hes got a 01 or 02 that he tore the dash out for his other car. maybe shoot him a pm asking if hes still got the car. no idea if he scrapped it or not. it was in a roll over iirc.

Thanks Scotty, I appreciate your guys help!

Yep Scotty I scrapped it long ago. That harness was too much work to keep intact so I chopped off and kept the pigtails only.

I have a forward half wiring harness assembly for a 2001 Grand Prix, non GTP (engine harness is primary difference.
it's basically everything forward of the bottom of the B pillars.
removing this harness took an entire day at the junkyard. and that was not with careful removal.... this was using sawzalls and hammers to disassemble the dashboard.... installing this is going to be fun....
It's in a large Rubbermaid bin with all brainboxes still connected...about 75-100lbs ish....
I probably shouldn't even offer this since I only have one other complete harness to use with the 442.

you can get the factory wiring diagrams and just do point to point circuit identification and then repair the current wiring

This is what I'd do, fix whats there.

This is what i've started to do but after I repaired all the striped colored wires now im left with orange yellow pink and black solid wires and 3 different ways they could possibly go. I guess I could undo the whole harness and follow them to where they go but what a pain in the ass that will be.

go to the wiring diagrams
a lot of fuses will have multiple wires of the same color leaving them, sometimes with different thickness' as each fuse will feed several systems/components

the wire colors your listing GM uses on mostly the primary electrical power feeds. devices and between devices wires tend to be smaller and have tracers if the primary color is one of the ones listed.

therefore its likely all primary power feeds tpo various modules/computers/lights etc
