help !!!....smoke came rolling inside etc

hey all..I picked up this 97' grand prix SE a few weeks ago...a couple of nights ago I left the passenger window down @ night and it rained pretty good.....so the door panel inside was wet and the carpet, and the seat kind of...
yesterday while on the highway ...instantly smoke (burn smell ) came rolling through the passengers side interior vents/glove box/under glove box...I had my 4 year old son and immediately pulled over and got out, and got him out..popped the hood and nothing under there.....and within a minute of the car sitting there it was gone.....i started it and drove it 20 miles to work later and it acted like it never happened ( no high temp, normal idle, drive etc..).....then when I got off @ midnight last night..I came out and started it, and my speedometer dash lights wouldn't come on, and neither would my headlight/daylight lamps/corner lamps.....so I dont know what happened or what it could be ?.....
someone told me possibly water got in the heater core and burned it up, and I should disconnect it?.
i checked the fuses for the main headlights ( 60 amp ) under the hood in the fuse box and those are fine...any suggestions on whats going on or what to do/look for ?

Most likely something behind the dash shorted out from the water. Usually a smoke like you mention is caused by wires heating up and melting together.

ok, i would check in your under hood "relay center" pull up the box to check the wiring underneath. i had a 1992 at one point in time that did the same thing and it turned out some wires touched under neath the relay box and melted a lot more wires underneath it. messed up all my lights inside as well as my cooling fans and a/c
