help! - oil drain plug

so i had to change my oil and decided to do it by hand this time, and i take out the oil drain plug and it looks like this

it has a hole through the middle and is made of very bendable rubber and the bottom has some jagged edges? is that how its supposed to be or did a mechanic iv taken it to mess up in the past? and if so can i just find a bolt of the right size and screw it in there? thanks

it might be an aftermarket "quick drain" plug... yes you can go to an auto parts store and get a "stock" one

also when i took off the oil cap it had some yellow looking gunk in it

is that bad?

The yellow gunk is just moisture.

Well, that isn’t a stock drain plug for sure. And the by looks of your oil fill hole you might have sludge in there. One thing is for sure, don’t ever go back to that same oil change place. Unfortunately most of those quick change places use the cheapest oil and filter money can buy.:th_crossbones1: Doing oils changes your self is the best way, or if you do go somewhere have them use a brand name oil. That’s what I do in the winter when I’m lazy, costs an extra $3 for me to get Castrol. IMO change the oil yourself with your favorite brand “high mileage” 5W-30 oil, and when you get a stock steel drain plug spend an extra buck and get the magnetic version. Good luck.:th_praying:

for what its worth, valvoline maxlife does an AMAZING job of cleaning up sludge. maybe do a couple short oil change intervals with that and a quality filter

thanks guys got it all done with no incicdent after that besides the filter getting stuck so i stuck a big screwdriver through it to get some more leverage and got it off lol and picked up a magnetic drain plug too , and i actually used valvoline maxlife , guess it was a lucky choice at pepboys earlier lol

What is with these flipping oil change guys always monkey-ing on filters! Is it a pathetic show of ignorance, or is it a conspiracy?

I watched guys literally shake the vehicle on the lift putting a drain plug in.
your typical drain plug has to be what, a little tighter then hand tight? The kids they have doing these jobs do not know anything and seem to think the drain plug is holding the engine in the vehicle.

as well as oil filters. they seem to think 20ft\lb is the proper amount for a filter,

Tho people make fun of me because i always prime my filters if its in the vehicle a way that makes it possible.
The sideways ones are a little trickier,
