Ok so i recently picked up this car off the original owner, and he informed me that it had never had the transmission fluid changed (140k) so I wanted to change it..it shifted fine before but i figured it was cheap insurance..fluid wasnt burnt but was deffinatly at the end of its life..so i dropped the pan cleaned everything up bought an oem gasket and filter..poured 4 quarts in and no leak..put another 3 in and it is pouring out of the dip stick tube...so im stumped...i start the car and it quits leaking but as soon as i shut it off boom leaking...mind you it didnt leak a bit before and i didnt mess with the tube at all..so heres my question...is 7.5 quarts too much? i read thats what it needs after a pan and filter change but idk why it would be leaking so bad all of a sudden..if it is the tube seal how to i change it?

the spot welds that hold the dipstick tube to the mounting bracket are known to rust out/break and cause leaks, though this leak point is not usually leaking until driving or while adding fluid

Does it have headers?

I ask because, I recently had something similar happen when I helped a friend do a pan drop, filter, shiftkit install. Got everything all buttoned up, began to add fluid and same thing.... About 20% of what he dumped in ended up on the floor. Turns out, the dipstick tube was laying on the headers and over time, actually rubbed a hole clean through.

No headers, it doesn't even leak out that bad while pouring it in, it's after that it starts leaking bad, it really feels like I put too much in or something

Basically what I'm needing to know is how to remove the dipstick..I see the bolt but it looks like a pain to get to..is there an easier way to get it off? There is very little room..

I really don't want to start it as it only has about 4 quarts in it..it's on ramps but with engine off its reading right at the add a pint mark

you take that 10 mm bolt out, then from the top, pull the tube out. have a pan under the tube as fluid may come out depending on just how low you are when you pull the tube out.

I got it but boy it wasn't easy, heat shield had to come off egr valve and bolt is at an angle so about 2ft of extension with a swivel anr it finally is out

nice. odd the seal went bad when you didnt touch it. unless it was already low from leaking out before you got the car.......:th_scratchhead:
