I have a 98 grand prix gt 3800 non sc I had to replace the heads igot them from a salvage yard the car runs now but I cant get it to pump oil the car sat for about 3 months without oil in it so it might have lost its prime a friend of mine told me if they sold me the wrong year heads it wont pump oil is this true any help would be appreciated

hook a oil pressure gauge up to the engine, where the oil pressure sensor is. then take the spark plugs out of the engine, then crank the engine for 15 to 20 seconds at a time, do this till you see pressure on the gauge. then put the plugs back in and fire it up.

take the oil filter off and fill it with oil if its dry or you put it on dry. this will help get it primed.

being our filters are almost straight up its easy to fill it then put it on the car.

The series 1 aka 92-95 motors needed the pump to be packed to prime them. The series 2 that you have doesn't require this, usually following what Scottydoggs said will do the trick.

The heads have nothing to do with the oil pumping. Our pump is located in the timing cover and driven by the crank.

ok I tried hooking a gage and turning it over for about an hour every few minutes and it never pumped up is there any thing else I can try

Maybe a dumb question.. does it have oil in it to begin with?
Did you drain the oil when you replaced the heads?
