I'm new here, but not to Pontiac. I had a plain jane GP from 89-02; loved it. Now I am thinking of buying a used 08 GP GXP at a GM dealer, but it was a GM program car and they replaced the trans at 50K. It is now in their certified program. Should I run away from this ride? I looked at a few threads on the TRANS area. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Welcome to the forum. I am fairly new as well.

Your question is a good one. For the right price, anything can/should be bought. However, I personally would continue with browsing the classifieds.

yes, mechguy, i agree. it has new Kumho tires and "no haggle" price is approx $13K. the price seems fair; it's just the former tranny issue has me somewhat skeptical. thanks!

I can really only think of three reasons as to why a trans would fail as low as 50k:

1. The trans was a factory freak.
2. The car was heavily abused.
3. A freak accident - such as loss of fluid.

In case 2, the only other thing I would really worry about is the abuse on the engine. Case 1 & 3 would be less of an issue.

I would also weigh heavily the overall condition of the body & interior when making the decision. Also be sure to check for accident history....

How does the $13K price compare with other nearby 08 GXP's?
