Hi Everyone,

I just bought my first Pontiac, a 99 Grand Prix GTP! I purchased it from friends of the family that bought it new, I actually remember being 8 years old when they first bought it and looking at the cool HUD. Well I'm sure I will have lots of question if you guys could help me that would be great. I bought the car December 6th 2010, and on my why to college today the transmission went out. Any advice. Thanks again.

Pete

Yeah, it has plenty of fluid, I know they did frequent tranny flushes and filter changes. How bad is a transmission job?

For a transmission job, it depends what you want out of it. I'd say get some money, if anything...and take it to your local mechanic. Probably wouldn't hurt.

Do any of the gears or reverse work? And what, if any, sounds are you hearing?

Oh, and welcome.

I wasn't being hard on it when all of the sudden I went to turn left and the engine just revved up, so I coasted to a stop and if I manually shift and drive really slow it will move, thats how I got it home. Reverse works great. If I go over 2800 rpm it slips. Does the Tranny actually have to come out? or can they get to it by removing various parts and replace the internals while still in the car?
Thanks

im not that sure on tranys, but it could just be something inside that messed up, i would reccomend bringing it to a mechanic just on case
