Hello & help wanted.

I am new to the forum and in need of some technical assistance. I have a 2002 GT (not supercharged) and I really like it, but it has developed an annoying sound in the front end. It is not from tire noise or the tires not being balanced properly & it is not engine related (you can put the car in nuetral & shut the engine off as you are moving and the sound is still there). I don't think it is the wheel bearings either. Could it be something in the drive axles themselves? Any help would be awesome! Thanks!

And honestly with a car rolling and a prominent sound that is constant and gets louder with speed sounds like a wheel bearing.

No popping or grinding. Talked to a mechanic friend and he seems to think it is the CV shaft. He said they're not too hard to replace and relatively inexpensive so I thought I would start there. Sound plausible?

sounds possible. normally a problem with the axles you'll see the CV boots busted and grease flung all over the place and/or noticeable vibrations. normally a groaning/grinding sound is wheel bearings. they are known to go bad on these all the time, especially if you get cheap ones.
