• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Hi gang, I am a new member to the group and new to Pontiac Grand Prix ownership. I purchased a used 01' GP SE and I think I bought a car with some issues. I am reading the forum and trying to locate certain answers to some of the questions that I may have regarding diagnosing the car. Here is a list of some of the problems.

1. AC/Heat fan blows on 5 and none of the lower speeds.
2. The fuel gauge is reading bad. For some reason the gauge is jumping between 1/2 & 3/4 & full.
3. Driver's side window switch works intermittently.
4. Just noticed today that the car acts like it has no power when you try to drive up hill. I also smell a peculiar odor like fresh gas. The engine oil life sensor is flashing now where it wasn't the other day. I am leaning towards cat converter being bad but wanting to be sure.

Plus, I was wanting to know for my own information. This car has a "Trac" button that does nothing when you push it. I was told from the seller that this car did not come with traction control. Was this an option or did he pull the wool over my eyes?

Welcome:
1. No idea
2. Sounds like the floater is shot in the gas tank. It's accessible through the trunk.
3. More than likely the contacts are corroded. Take the switch off and then clean the contacts really well. Usually will resolve your problem.
4. Have you tried resetting the oil life monitor system yet?

Shat do you mean the trac button does nothing? Like you push it and it doesn't illuminate on the DIC?

Yes, I mean the I push the Trac button and nothing lights up. I don't even have any idea whether I even have trac control? The previous owner told me that the car does not have it Trac control. He also said that the trac button was installed by the factory to fill the hole? Could this be accurate? Would the factory install a trac button and not put the function in the car?

Yes you should have trac control. If there is a button for it you have it. If the low traction light doesnt illuminate when pushing the trac control button then yes something is wrong.
