Hello folks. First time Grand Prix owner here, found my 2006 GXP essentially by accident and didn't even know this model was ever made. Found a listing on an auto site when looking to trade in my F-150 truck for basically any 4 door car. It was an 06 Grand Prix GXP that was in my price range and mile acceptance. I didn't look up the GXP info before checking it out. When I got in and started it up something just sounded a little different, opened the hood and realized what I had found. Started the google binge and just had to buy it.

Always been a Ford/Mustang guy, but wow is this thing sweet to cruise in. Looking forward to learning and contributing what I can! Here's a crappy cell pick of the new to me ride.

welcome converted ford guy lol

you will want to get the tranny serviced, (not a flush) pan drop filter and refill it. also add a shift kit, then add an external trans cooler, the v8 puts a beating on the tranny and they tend to run super hot.

she does look clean. hope you checked it for rust being your in the rust belt. rear strut towers, and the rockers tend to rust first. cant even tell by looking at the car unless you look for it a lot of the time. being a 06 i would hope its ok still.

I actually remove the entire trunk carpeting to check for any rust, and checked underneath looking at the shock towers and under body checking for rust. I saw absolutely none, looks almost brand new. Wonder if this one came from down south before getting to the dealer up here.

I'll definitely take it in for a full work up and trans service. What kind of shift kit and cooler would be good for this model? Any specific ones that are well known to work best?

theres how to's for both if your the diy type guy.

transgo shift kits are about 40 off ebay and work real good. many use it and love it.

the cooler, a 24,000 gvw truck oil cooler works well. iirc tep also sells a kit.

we also got a gxp owners thread here, some of them guys have gone mod crazy on them. cams, heads, intake swaps headers and all that cool stuff. but with all that you'll want a built tranny to hold it all.
