Heat???

I have a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Comp G!!! The car never really heats up to half way on the heat gauge. It sits between a quarter and half quarter while driving. When I am in traffic and stopping a lot, it will go up to half way. I have replaced the thermostat with a GM one. Any ideas????

on my 01 the guage only goes up 1/4 of the way, which is 195 degrees. if it reached halfway i would be doing some worrying. maybe your guage is similar in that regard. does your guage have numbers? if so, around what temp does it level off at?

sounds like you may have put in a 160 degree t-stat, is your heat not warm enough for you? cause having your car run cooler is MUCH better anyway

^ there is no way he has a 160 unless his gauge is mess up. That sounds about normal for gauge fluctuation.

Well there arent any numbers on my gauge. It's just in four quarters, and the last quarter is red. I do get heat, but not as much as I would think should come out. It get's hotter once it heats up to a quarter way. I bought the stat from GM and they said it was the one recommended for that car. I just don't want to cause any damage to my car if it's running too cold here in Canada, lol. Most cars I get in sit half way on the gauge while driving, that's why I am wondering why mine doesnt.

check your coolant temp sensor. its possible your temp is fine but the sensor is causing the gauge to flip out. theyre like 12 bucks at a part store. just go get one and replace it. even if its not it then you have a new one anyway.

Did yopu just get this car?

Sounds normal to me...

I too thought my 99 sensor was bad and gague did not read high enough, I just got this car. I replaced it and did read the same. Finally I remembered I could check the ECT on my scan tool and the gauge and tool were correct. Wasted $15...

I know our cars are not the same, but it sounds normal to me.

My gauge starts at 160, normal operating temps are 180-190, and there is a lot of gauge left when it is reading normal. My gauge also goes to 260 max. I think GM chagned that for you model and it does not start at 160 or at least it is not labeled 160.
