Headlights and Turn Signals Not Working. Help!

rynoman03

I AM PEWPIN!
Hello,

I've got a project car that I've sunk some money into that I can't get road worthy unless I can get the headlights and turn signals to work.

The Odd thing is the hazards, brake lights and reverse lights work just fine. All of the right lights illuminate on the exterior of the car.

- When I manually turn the headlights on I get both turn signal indicators in the dash to light up and the bright headlight indicator to light up. But no headlights are working.

- When I try to test a turn signal both indicators in the dash flash like I just turned the hazards on.

I bought another Multi-Function Indicator switch from Ed Morad Parts Co. and I get the same results. It is possible that maybe both units don't work properly.

I've checked fuses but maybe i've missed something else.

Any help or ideas is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Ryno

Hey Ryno I dont know what kind of car it is but When I replaced my headlight bulbs in the GP I put one in upside down and it made similar issues happen.

The difference is my lights turned on

I had a weird problem where there was a short in the bulkhead connector that brings the wires out of the trunk to the tail lights. If I stepped on the brakes, voltage would sneak back through the headlight switch and activate fog lamps and make the blinkers go crazy too. So maybe when you turn on the headlights, voltage from the tail light circuit is sneaking back up through the turn signal circuits.

just a thought to check out.

Do you have a location where that is, or can you elaborate on the issue a bit more. I'm familiar with the platform, but not with all the wiring locations.

Did any of those things work prior to you working on it? What work have you done to the car? Have you gone thru that work to ensure that you haven't left a wires loose or disconnected.

I'm not sure. I got the car from a friend who was going to turn it into a turbo car. It had HIDs for headlights and fogs. I removed those wiring harnesses and ballasts. It seemed like things were missing.

I've found several relays and fuses missing. The previous owner pulled them it seems since he had racetronix harness and HIDs. The racetronix harness was bad and had to use the stock harness to get the car running.

Basically all I / we did was transplant a new motor in.

Did the hid systems ever work?
I bought a 98 gtp that had hids installed in the headlight. I replaced the assemblies and probably fauled one of the bulbs. I replaced bulbs with xenon bulbs connected to the regular wiring harness. Everything is working so far.
I would definitely look at the headlight wiring. It sounds like you are getting feedback through a bad or disconnected ground.

Yeah, he had strobes up there in the clear corners too. He took the hid bulbs out to my knowledge. The smaller blinker bulbs look really dim. I'll probably replace them. I don't know if they are some of those stealth bulbs or whatever.

not sure what JY in Kansas are like or if you can trade parts for bourbon but 2 jy light harnesses couldnt set you back much.

then you just unplug the one in your car from the main pull lights out of your housing take jy one put it back together and your driving at night

Found it!

Behind the driver's headlight, about 1-2 foot down the harness is an 18ga wire with a round terminal on it. It was tucked up underneath the radiator tray. I connected it back to it's respected area and now my headlights, blinkers, and what not work. WOOT!
