Headers vs manifolds

IF i am looking to do performance upgrades what would be better Headers or bigger manifolds?. From what i have heard is that headers take away the torque from our cars. Or if anyone can explain this to me plz. Also maybe this helps i have a Grandprix GTP Comp G. Plz help because i have the money for it and i am looking to do this upgrade before the spring. What is going to give me better horsepower and torque in the long run.

headers dont take away any torque. you wont notice it if any.

if youre looking for a mid 13 second car then you dont need headers. any faster than that it is a good investment to have.

what will i need if i go with headers and what will i need if i go with manifolds the extra like i know for a manifold i am going to need a downpipe. what else is needed in both set ups and what is going to give me better power for my money?

manifold setup: powerlog and 3" downpipe. those will replace all the restrictive parts, including the cat.

header setup: the headers will replace everything up until the cat.

as far as bang for the buck goes, i think a powerlog and downpipe are best, but you can find headers for nearly as cheap as those two parts together. headers also have their downsides depending upon which set you are looking at.

Agreed. Except most headers cme with a down pipe already and you have the option to choose a catted dp or an off road dp (no cat)

is a 3" downpipe neccessary on a 04 gtp comp g if from stock it does not have u-bend? If I get the plog and ported em, will the 3'' dp work on that ported em?

Yes a ported rear exhaust manifold will work with a 3" downpipe. I decided not to mess with porting the rear exhaust manifold because the cost of doing it wouldn't be worth it. I went with a powerlog and 3" dp with cat. This spring I'm going to headers wrap the crossover and be done with exhaust work.

The coating does reduce radiant heat quite a bit. I guess it's helping. I changed so much at once I can't really comment on that one specific mod.

So what i will be purchinsing is headers i will only need some one to right which ones are the best and what i would need for the whole system. plz if they can just give me a list

best headers: TOGs or ZZP

good headers, but not cheap: S&S or SLP

cheap headers: Pacesetters or SSAC

the cheaper they are, the harder they are to install and get sealed with the exception of S&S because they are the only 2 piece header made. they are by far the easiest to install and seal minus that you need to get your downpipe welded, but that is pretty common with all of the sets.

I have Pacesetters and for the price they are awesome. Sure they might be a ***** and a half to seal when you get em but once you do they are bulletproof IMO.

SLP's, TOG's and S&S are great headers too...but for the money...I'd take the Pacesetters...

On the other hand if you have the cash I'd spring for SLP's...Or ZZP's for that matter...

thats really good info but i need a list cause i am planning on doing my whole exhaust in one take to the shop so headers i am going with the best ZZP then what else would i need so they can install my wholes exhaust in at once?
