Header install question

So I’ve been putting some SD headers on my GTP and finally about done. I took the advise of most and bought new stepped clamps to use instead of the U bolts provided. On the rear header where the cross over slips into it how do I clamp it there? Where it slips into it there is a metal piece supporting the cross over to the header and so I can’t slip the clamps over them. Hope that makes sense.

Have a picture?

From what I remember year ago I just put the clamp on the cross over pipe above the transmission and side the clamp all the way down to the bottom where it meets up with the rear header.

In the circled part. Metal piece connecting collector to header. Or do I only slip it on and clamp at the very top? Seems like it wouldn’t have enough space to get a good clamp.

I guess I don't remember what mine looked like and if that support piece was there. I put headers on my car way back in 2011-2012 I think. Don't have the car anymore.

I'd cut the support off and move it down, re-weld it or just see how much of the clamp you can get on there and see if it leaks.

I can try to take a pic of my setup when I get off work I remember I used the clamps it came with only one that came off is the connection you see right by the flex joint in your pic that thing popped clean off after a few redlines haha ended up just having a shop weld it everything else I used came with the headers except gaskets at the heads don't remember cutting anything only remember the pain to fit that piece in and that I had to bang out the firewall to fit an o2 you should be able to just put that clamp on with that room let me confirm though

they fuked up on the build, that should be below the slip joint. you'll have to cut it off to get a band clamp on there.

Wtf. It should be way further down on that pipe. Here's mine.

Wish you the best getting that crossover to not leak. I'm letting a half tube of muffler cement cure right now. I could have just screwed the install though, like 5 times.

That sucks! I wish I would have realized this before installing them. Any chance a U bolt and muffler cement will work?

Cut that bracket off. Use the band clamps you have and smear lots of copper rtv all over the pipe connection.

While I figure out what I’m gonna do about that next problem I’m running into is how do I re-connect the upstream 02 sensor? There isn’t enough room between the header and the tunnel like wall it’s in. Here’s a pic.

the o2 part sucks. i ended up getting a custom dp made for my sd headers, so i had them install 2 bungs in the curved pipe for the o2 and the wideband. then i cut the o2 plug off the cars harness and made it 3 foot longer and re routed it down the strut tower to the rack then the dp.

some shops have a plug you can put in the unused o2 bung to seal it off.

I just took everything off. And when I’m not tired and frustrated, i’ll just dent the firewall out a bit. Thanks guys. This install is a pain. Doable, just a pain in the ass lol
I’m in Vegas so it’s hot as hell in the garage so I can only work for so long before I’m sweaty and tired lol

i feel ya, it was 100 here today, but add lots of humidity. you need to cut a hole in the wall and install a large ac unit. what id do

Scotty where did you get the upstream 02 sensor bung welded in? Any chance you have a pic? Is it still above the flex pipe?

like i said mines custom now. the v band is off the bottom of the header to solid pipe that curves under the car to the new flex then the cat. in th epic is the v band clamp so they are a few inches below the bottom of the header. in your case you can go past the goose neck or in it, but id rather have it up higher under the car.

any muffler shop should be able to drill the hole and weld in a bung. the bung is like 5 bucks here in hand. welded in, the last one cost me 30 bucks in my truck, they put it up on the lift drilled and welded it in.

if you walk in part in hand id hope its like 20 bucks to do.

So I can have a bung welded right here where I circled, and that would work ok? The headers came with a bolt in the 02 bung would that work to plug it?
