Hi guys, I have a question about a 1997 3.8 grand prix se . When temp reaches 210 normal operating temp the rpms fluctuate about 1500 to 500
rps . I was told that the plastic plenums are noted for worping and causing this condition , or that the maf sensor is bad . Any truth to these claims ?

I haven't heard of the warping, but if the MAF hasn't been replaced, it probably should be. Also my normal operating temp is like 185-190 so I don't know if thats high or if mine is low.

I thought that 180-190 was on the cool side myself . I'll be replacing the maf and the throtle position sensor within a week . If anyone else has an idea please let me know . THANKS

The engine was just replaced, so new coolant and stuff, but i drove an hour and a half and it didn't go past 195*

TPS is possible.

MAF is normally an easier item to test.

unplug, drive normally (no more than 40% throttle), if its fine, then its the maf.

if its the same, then the maf probably isn't at fault.

Do a cooling system pressure test to determine if you have any leaks.

15-18 PSI for at least 10 minutes.

Also moved this to the correct section.
