Head Gasket

I have a 2000 3.8L supercharged. The car started over heating so I danged the thermostat twice flushed it and back flushed it due to sludge that was in the cooling system replaced with green antifreeze. Car is still over heating but it will only over heat one time and than does not over heat but the temp. Still fluctuates quite a bit. Somebody told me its the head gasket. Is it? I also checked tranny fluid and it was not reading on the dip stick so i added teanny fluid a little at a time and it never read on. Dip stick i put four quarts in it. Than checked tranny fluid again and it was a light pink color can this be causing my over heating problems?

I bet that gunk in your coolant was trans fluid. If the trans cooler (inside the radiator) lines cracked, it can leak into your coolant or vice versa.

I would say intake gaskets, the sludge is more than likely just poor maintance never flushing the cooling system.

I just got the car not to long ago so whoever hadd it before me did poor maintenance on it. That is what I was thinking is that there is a rupture in the radiator somewhere. Could this be the cause if over heating?

The way I'm reading it, you are likely low on coolant. Pull the thermostat and fill the LIM through the t stat hole. Then reinstall and finish filling and burping the system with the cap off the radiator.

As for your trans fluid. Did you check it with the engine running or off? If off, then it's severly overfull
