Ok so after spending the last couple days reading alot of posts on this site I just have a few questions

1. What exactly is knock retard ?

2. Where can I get a scan tool and what ones the best ?

3. Can u run a 3.5 pulley with little to no mods (I know for the 3.4 u need alot of mods and its unsafe but one of the performance sites said 3.5 pulley for stock gtp)

4. Where should my knock be when I look for it ?

5. I noticed everyone says colder plugs and i see autolite 104s alot but I look at autozone.com and advanced and they both say autolite 104s are not for the gtp and they dont list them under it ?

sorry for so many I tried answering most of them by readin posts but these are the ones im still tryna figure out...

thanks, Nick

1. What exactly is knock retard ?

Sticky in this section...

http://www.grandprixforums.net/f18/what-is-octane-kr-explained-here-1507.html

4. Where should my knock be when I look for it ?

Zero.

5. I noticed everyone says colder plugs and i see autolite 104s alot but I look at autozone.com and advanced and they both say autolite 104s are not for the gtp and they dont list them under it ?

That's because they don't come stock in it. The 104s are colder and Auto Zone are idiots.

LOL^^

Good deal, even after Sticky-ing it I still have to whore it out in every thread :p

Read, read, read...and make the pulley drop your LAST in your first set of mods.

thanks for the help but I have read the sticky and I know your supposed to do at least a downpipe, high flo cat, colder plugs, thermostat and ecu etc... but I noticed everyone says for 3.4 pulley. On a couple sites that sell the pulleys they say 3.5 is ok for stock and from what people say the 3.5 and 3.4 is night and day difference... thats why I was wondering thats all...

Also where can I get a scanner and whats the best one ?

Thanks again, Nick

stock gtp's have kr so i wouldnt swap to ANY pulley without scanning first. you can either get tuning software (which is also going to scan) or you can get something like an aeroforce (cant do any tuning to the pcm). canned tunes (zzp 1.0, etc.) are kinda dumb to do now, imo, since you can get a used powrtuner for ~250.

1. Knock Retard

2. look for a used tuner or scan tool on the forums. you could use hptuners, but is too expensive for me. powrtuner is enough.

3. i wouldnt touch the sc pulley

4. nothing but zero. this becomes increasingly important the more power you make.

5. thats because they want you to run platinum plugs. they also go by oe parts. copper plugs take heat out of the cylinders much better than platinum plugs do. another thing is that most platinum plugs have a sharp tip on the electrode, which can make for a "hot spot", not helping in the battle against kr at all. imo the reason platinum plugs were oem for these cars is because they last a while. most people dont want to have to change plugs every ~7k-10k miles.

Read the stickies first, knock is what will destroy your motor, and it will get worse with a pulley drop so that's why you need other supporting mods first.

For a scanner either go straight for HP tuners (to tune) or get an Aeroforce gauge that will read many of the parameters of the car.

Something else, every car is different. Some people can run X setup for a 3.4 and others have to run Y setup for a 3.4, I might need rockers to run my 3.4 right now while other people don't need them at all. Don't read the ZZP guides for pulley drops, they're usually wrong.
