Hardest part(s) of installing an IC?

I'm looking for a few tips before installing my ZZP SSIC. Please no comments about wasting time on the SS. I got the flojet pump and the largest radiator ZZP offered. If anyone wants to help, I'm in the NW burbs of Chicago. Will offer food/booze. Thanks!
 


never done it but plan on this mod also. im not far if you want some help wrenchin im done to see what im getting myself into
 
nothin hard about it, should have gone with my PHENOLIC version though...

you buy your ic used or new? i do make the spacers too, 1/4" or 3/16" idk how much it would help the ssic though.
 


Good buy for sure. I would say routing and installing the pump and hoses would be the hardest part if there are no detailed instructions...
 
Cool. I was mostly worried about getting a good seal around the ic and ic core. The instructions don't look all that great and I can't seem to find the cd that came with it either :confused:

Does anyone know if a 703mm belt would work? I currently have a stocker on there and a 3.6 laying around.
 
the hardest parts to install are the front mount heat exchanger and the pump. it would also be a good idea to have a nice overflow for easy addition of more coolant, ice, and easy bleeding of the system.
 


The hoses and design of the system will be easy for me since I've been doing PC liquid cooling systems with reservoirs for a while and have gotten good at making self bleeding systems. :)

By the way, anyone heard of having to shim up the ICM and coil packs to keep the belt from hitting on a FS IC setup?
 
yea, you have to shim the coil packs up like 1/2 ", not too hard. Otherwise the belt will hit it.

Yep, Most just use a nut in between the coil packs and bracket.

Make sure you determine what kind of pcv functioning the ic has. You may need to run a breather or you may not, not sure on ssic. The other part is trying to get the air out of the system using the SSIC. The way the hoses are routed it is hard to get a high point in the system to mount a reservoir. You can try and run your return line back towards the wheel well in the engine bay (a higher mountable point) and mount a T fitting with a 5 psi. cap on it to bleed the system of air.

Also which fmhe did you get? One of the largest ones is for those who have deleted a/c. Or the newest style?

If your thinking about upgrading to a full size later on, you may want to get all your hosing and heat exchangers in order now so it is easy to upgrade in the future. If you really wanted to, you could put a pcv pipe through the front bumper supports and put fittings on there to route water through there before it even gets to the heat exchanger, and add a lot to your systems capacity. But theres only so much you can do before the SSIC plate just gets too small to do the job.
