Half Shaft Play?

Had a dripping passenger side output seal, so I went ahead and replaced it. I noticed the cv shaft has a small amount of play horizontally and vertically, assuming this was normal I put everything back together and today it looks like its dripping again not as severe but definitely enough to bother me. Any suggestions?

A little bit of play is normal, but is it moves enough to loose contact with the seal obviously that would be a problem. SOmtime the axle can have a groove worn into it from the old seal that can cause leakage.

Thanks for the reply, I checked the axle input for any uneven areas and it looked symmetrical. If the axle has more play than the little bit your talking about, what else could it be?

How smooth did seal mating surface of the axle look?, any scratches or pits? did you lube it up a little bit before installing it?

Sometimes if seals are freshly installed they will seep for alittle while then seal them self.

The axle looked smooth and yeah I lubed it up before I installed it into the new seal. It would be nice if you are right about seals sealing them self up overtime but the new axle has 2x as much play as the stock drivers side axle.
