H/U options

OK guys, need some help. I just picked up my '98 GTP. I'm looking to upgrade the H/U since the disc changer doesn't help MP3 discs and it's driving me absolutely nuts.

A few questions

A) Is there a GM head until from other cars that plays MP3's and that will still allow me to retain the use of the disc changer?

B) Is there a 1.5 DIN stereo still being made(aside from Jenson which is all I could find) that plays MP3's? I'd rather have it that size, not fond of a big opening being filled up with a install kit and a small din radio.

If A & B are a big no then I'll guess I'll just get a mid-range Pioneer or Kenwood, I know pretty much with any aftermarket radio I can kiss the disc changer goodbye right? The signals are complete different?

Thanks guys.

A: don't know TBH don't care
B: theres not really a market for it. see the link i posted for a nice hu kit
"I know pretty much with any aftermarket radio I can kiss the disc changer goodbye right? The signals are complete different?" idk whos feeding you that hunk of **** but no a cd is a cd....

I'm not trying to be a dick but you need to get a clue. First off if you can't answer my questions with certainty then don't.

If you don't care about A then don't answer. Obviously I do.

As far as the mounting kit it still looks retarded IMO. I know there isn't a market for them(1.5 DIN's) anymore, I figured I'd still ask.

Where did I say anything about an actual CD being different? I'm talking about the signal the disc changer puts out(and I don't mean music, genius). In my C5 the factory disc changer wouldn't work with an aftermarket H/U because the signals are completely different and there was no adapter. I was assuming it'd be the same in the GTP since they're similar set ups.

So congrats on increasing your post count because that's pretty much all you accomplished with your post.

Thanks :)

The honest answer is no to both. A nice 1.5 DIN that plays mp3's would be an Alpine CDA-7998 :)

Otherwise I think Pioneer has some fairly recent 1.5 DIN cd players that are no longer in production but easily found NIB old stock. I think the DEH-960MP is one? From what I recall I didn't think it matched our interior very well :(

CD Changer? You're correct in that you need to make sure the pinouts and plug types mate up but as far as I know the signal is the same. I highly doubt they utilize anything fancy like optical out but I honestly haven't looked into any of that. I thought the cd-changers were all built into the double din factory HU's these days? If that's true the question is moot.

If I had no financial boundaries...I'd choose this...

I did a search and couldn't find much, guess I'll just have to use a crappy install kit.

I have the 6 speaker system....is that the Bose system?
