Grand prix transmission/speedometer problems

I just got my transmission replaced for my 04 Grand Prix. It's leaking , the guy said the transmission line needs to be replaced. So he's gonna do that. But I told him the speedometer isn't working and the car jumps/drives funny. It doesn't even go over 70. (Drove it on the freeway) I know what it feels to go 80+. But why isn't the speedometer working. Someone at my job said he prolly didn't plug the rem or something back up. Idr what he said. But can anyone help? I wanna drive :( I got it replaced cause I couldn't drive in reverse. I can now. But there are new problems. None of this was happening before he put in the new one, also now my car says check gas cap. Someone said just get a new one

I would go back and have them go over the entire process of what they did to the car...

It sounds like they put the wrong model of transmission in it, the stock GT gear ratio in the transmission is 3.05.

You need to ask him what gear ratio the trans he put into it has, without telling him what it's supposed to be, and if he says 3.29 or 2.93, he put the wrong transmission in. Having the wrong gear ratio will cause all of the problems you described.

It could be fixed with a change to the PCM, the computer that controls the engine and transmission. Gas cap problem can wait until after the trans issue is fixed.

BTW, confidence is your best weapon to get this fixed without having to spend any more. :)

Tell the mechanic that he needs to either put the correct transmission in, or pay for you to have a performance shop with a tuner change the gear ratio in the PCM.

You paid for a new transmission for YOUR car, not a different car, and he needs to fix his screw up.

I went to this place called A&C auto parts. They told me it was the right transmission for my car. And they said it's the one without supercharged

And after I get transmission line switched and it keeps driving with a skip feelings , and bad take off, can I keep driving it? Just for another 2 weeks. I work two jobs and school. Kind of need my baby. I'm tired of using uber

I would tell them that since you paid for a good, working transmission, they're obligated to ensure that it works, and works properly. The transmission they put in was either improperly installed, or the wrong transmission.

You need to get angry with them, tell them to either fix it, or give you a full refund. Get nasty, mention lawyers, do whatever you have to to get them to fix your problem.
