Grand Prix GTP VS GT???

Hello,

I have an unusual question. Upon searching the web, I see that the 2004-'05 GTP has a zero to 60 time of 6.4 seconds. The 2006-07 GT has a 8 second zero to 60 time. Both cars have the same engine, an L32, both weigh the same also. What is up??? Perhaps a typo. Anyone have a 2006/2006 GT they have timed??? Thanks!
Ray

In 06-07 GT's were Supercharged; ending the GTP era.

No idea why those times are so different probably a typo

Unless they are using comp g times against the 06-07 gt times. But I will say, the 06-07s have a short rev limiter in gear. I've driven two 06 gt's and one 07, all three wouldn't go above the 4500-5000 rpm range.

I found it weird but that would have something to do with it I bet.

The car was in Park when you rev'd? All 04+ are like that.

That is a rev limiter set by GM, the cars will rev out to 5750-6000 in Neutral.

Ok, so the rev limiter may have something to do with it. I'll buy that. Now, being that it is the newer of the 3800 series 3 engines (L32 vs L67) can it still be easily and cheaply performance modified and what would you do to get there?

2006 saw the introduction of the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. I know for a fact build specs were tightened up; possibly the limiter was reduced as well.

I'm thinking about going with the 2007 Grand Prix GT. I think it may become a collectors car in some 10-15 years.

LOLOLOL I own one and it won't ever be a collectors car.

As far as your web search, its possible they are quoting the base times. I have seen several 06-08 bases being advertised as GT's, when anyone with a clue knows the 06 and 07 GT were nothing more than GTP's with a different nomenclature, and there were no 08 GT's.

No 04+ gp will ever be a collectors car. The only 97-03 gps that will ever be even considered a collectors car are the pace cars the Richard Petty car and maybe the 98 and 00 Daytonas.

Sent from my mobile office.

If you want a collector's car pick up a Pontiac G8, preferably a GXP. THAT will be a collector's car. The new Chevy SS (G8 in disguise) looks HORRIBLE.
Around here G8's still pull high teen$.

Hey, StealthLee,
Obviously you don't know as much as you think! Yeah, the GT is just a name change for the GTP of 2005. The 2006 and 2007 GT, however, had the L32 modifications done and the engines limit out slightly lower than the 2005 L32, what does that mean? Oh, it means that instead of pulling mid 6's it pulss an 8 second 0 to 60MPH.
And finally, the one thing no one else has knowledge of is that the cars themselves have a 15 degree past 12 setting shift on third gear on the tranny. I told you I knew engines "N" Stuff. Nuff said.

Slightly lower = 1.5 second difference in 0-60? My 97 GT pulss an 8 second 0 - 60.

x2 ^^ my 07 does the sameish

whats a l32 mod?

He's talking out his ass.

the 06 and 07 GT has the exact same horsepower, exact same torque, and exact same options as a 04-05 GTP. They are the same car with two different nameplates.

The best part is he is the thread starter. That means he came here to ask questions, and now all of a sudden he is the expert. LOLOLOL
