Grand Prix GT Struggles When Going Up Hills

I've had issues with my 2000 GT(175K miles) where it struggles going up grades and under hard acceleration. When ti gets around 2.5-3K RPMs then it starts to stutter and if I back off then it calms down. It's a burden to get over 50 MPH at times which is quite annoying. If I give it more power when it's stuttering/hesitating then the CEL will flash and then go off. I've tried taking it to autozone to get them to run the code, but they said the code has to be on. Any idea what it could be? I do need to have my intake gaskets changed so would that cause that problem? I assumed it was that, but when I changed my battery out a couple months ago it stopped doing it for like 3-4 days. Could it be the coil pack or something or would the car not start if I had a bad coil pack?

Well I got one person saying the ignition coils. Is there any way to see which one is bad? I'm gonna try that first since that is the cheapest. I'm guessing if I bring it to the dealer I gotta pay $80 off the top for a diagnostic right?

My Gt did the same thing when my cat went bad, if you tried to accelerate hard the car fell on its face, easiest way to tell if its the cat, is to remove the front 02 sensor temporarily and take the car for a test run down the road, if the car feels like a whole nother animal than we have pin pointed your problem. Check your spark plugs and plug wires. And do not take your car to a dealer, find a local mechanic that does good work and take it to them.

i fought this problem for awhile!! i changed my maf, didnt help. My upper and lower intake gaskets. didnt help. and took out my cat. didnt help. It was the 15 dollar fuel filter i overlooked, car stuttered under load especially uphills . I also changed my spark plug wires but i had a misfire code to tell me that. Please try the cheap filter first!!

I ended up finally just paying $40 to get a diagnostic and it turned out my ignition coil was bad. Switched it out and the car is mostly back to normal now. I originally bought a coil and just replaced one of them to see if it would help, but it didn't. I didn't know which cylinder was misfiring. I eventually got a code that it was on cylinder 5. The diagnostic corroborated that(had like 15,000 misfires on it) and I switched the coils around and I'm good now. :)
