Here's the story.
Back in October I had to change out my head gaskets since I blew both the front and rear out due to 6* of KR. Which was my fault because I turned the boost up instead of down. After new head gaskets and now running on E85, the Gp felt so strong and fast. I LOVE E85. LOL.
In early November I was supposed to go to a track rental. The night before I was doing some final tuning. All of a sudden while trying to accelerate, my trans gave. Since I had no gears, I didn't know if it was the chain or the torque converter. Got towed back home.
My trans needed a complete overhaul to begin with. I've had this tranny since 2005. Making more and more power every year. It was slipping, the shifts weren't sharp anymore. So I was debating to either overhaul mine or get a new trans.
I had to wait until after the new year to fix the tranny. That is when my friend and my other friends shop lift were available to help. While waiting, I was able to pick up a new TEP tranny with the works. I also picked up a 1" chain.
During the swap, I took out my harden output shaft and the Quaife diff and put it into the new TEP trans. Also put in the 1" chain. I also went with a Meziere flex plate. I wasn't going to take any chances with the new trans.
The problem with the old trans was the 15/16 chain. Plus the fluid was brownish and had a bad burnt smell. I must have been burning up the clutches badly. Plus there was a bearing that seized onto the shaft that the output shaft goes thru. When I opened the old trans, so much metal around the magnet in the pan. This trans was going to go sooner or later.
The GP is now up and running and it feels excellent. The new trans feels great. Just have to install the new trans cooler.
