Goodbye '97 Grand Prix, Hello 2008 G8 GT.

I know i've been quiet for awhile, but that's because big changes were happening. I came to conclusion the Grand Prix needed to go, as it was almost hitting 200,000 miles. I sold the car and everything with it for $3,500.

Now that I have a big boy job, I decided to pull the trigger on my "affordable dream car." I purchased a 2008 G8 GT with only 68,000 miles on the clock. Other than the 18" VMR wheels, the car is 100% stock. It was a show car for the last 5 years so it is in immaculate shape. Both the interior and exterior are a 10/10. If the car has one rock chip, the previous owner replaced the whole fender or bumper with GM original equipment and spent big money on professional paint work. Over $8,000 in receipts for body work making it in better shape than factory floor.

It also has every single option from the factory, and I bought it for a killer deal.

The car does also have a GXP rear bumper, which is a big bonus. I'll be getting the windows tinted first, purchased a blend mount for cobra radar detector, will get an oil change with Mobil 1 full synthetic (holds 8.8 quarts... damn), will get some weather tech mats to keep the inside clean. I'd also like to purchase a front splitter shortly too.

When it comes to performance I'll be getting intake, long tubes, cat back, and tune. Still debating on what route to go. So far I'm leaning towards a rotofab intake, kooks long tube, solo cat back, and a custom tune. But this won't happen for awhile yet.

Dan, congrats on the upgrade, your 97 was a sweet ride. I have no doubts this one will turn out the same, it already looks damn sharp.

Looks great! Black cars are fun to see while still in perfect condition. Got any plans to modify or will you just use it gently for awhile?

That is one sweet car man Congrats! Time to change your signature. ive seen a G8 GTP in my area. not sure what the difference is between GT and GTP but they look the same from the outside

I think you mean GXP. The G8 GXP has a 6.2 V8 instead of the 6.0, has the option for a 6 speed manual but only half of the GXP's had it. Different rims, bumper and rear bumper and interior stylings aswell.

Define killer deal, I'd still assume near 17-20k for that condition.

Well, I'd like to install Kooks longtube headers, Borla catback, intake, tune. That's as far as my imagination can see right now when it comes to modifying.

First things first, it needs tint. But other than that, I'll slowly save for my exhaust and just enjoy the car.

Nice score. Is the leather two tone, or just a single color?

Single black interior.

Damn. Nice and clean. Are you really going to put it through winter and salt?

Yes and no. Winter in Michigan now is hit or miss. When the roads are clear, I'll drive it. But when the weather turns I'll be taking my mother's car and keeping the G8 in the garage.

I paid 17k for it.

Killer was an exaggeration but definitely got a nice deal on the car.

The GXP also had, auxiliary trans, oil, and power steering coolers. A flat bottom steering wheel and wider 19" wheels. Not 100% sure but also had a more aggressive rear diff ratio. Stock for stock the GXP was half a second faster in the quarter mile.

Also first gen CTS-V brembos in the front.
Will need a 5mm spacer for them to fit the GT's 18 or 19 inch wheels. :-(

Either way, both are awesome cars.

Also Can, it seems your G8 GT is missing the sport package. It includes 19" factory wheels, aluminum brake and gas pedals, and a perforated leather steering wheel with more padded 9 and 3 grips.

The sport package doesn't interest me much, since I love the wheels the car has now.

As a side note, the car does have a GXP rear diffuser :)

You know... I'd be happy to store it for you in the winter. Never gets below freezing, and no salt for MILES! I'd even be willing to drive it on occasion, just to burn any moisture out of the system, because that's the kind of guy I am. Just throwing that out...

Seriously though, good choice.

Love your new ride/toy Dan. I'm happy for you
Perfect interior/exterior color

Thanks! Appreciate it.

I love the car already, from the interior to the exterior and all the space it has. But most importantly LS power.

Maybe if you were a bit closer, I'd take you up on that offer ;)
