Good aftermarket exhaust system for all year round driving

Hello. I have 2001 GTP with about 120k miles on it. The exhaust has gotten louder over the past month or so. I just had it checked out and it needs a resonator. The local shop wants $150 plus tax to replace. I was thinking about replacing the whole system instead if one could be had for around $500 or so.

Any recommendations on what system would be good? With or without the catalytic converter? What about the down pipe?

I am guessing it would have to stainless steel to stand up to the winters here in Chicago. I appreciate the suggestions! Thanks.

Needs a resonator.

Put a glasspack in, they're $30~. Bigger the better.

This topic has been covered a million times, just look around.

Use whatever mufflers you want, the factory "Y" will be reuseable most of the time; for a downpipe, get a stainless 3" one from ZZP. Catted or catless is up to you.

Summit has a 30" resonator for about $30... : ) and unless you're unhappy with the sound, would just replace that and leave all else alone unless you're going to mod.

"Cat-back" systems don't touch the converter, so you won't have to worry there. You'll want to leave the cat anyway because of your 01+ car.

Type of metal won't matter really, unless its cheap garbage tin foil stuff because it'll likely outlast the car.
