Going turbo

Hey guys, so I'm done with the whole supercharger thing and fighting kr.. Im currently looking at a few kits and was wondering from you turbo guys what would be the best setup for my moldy cammed l67.. I'm also not thrilled with using my sc. Housing as an intake.. So my question is. What kits are y'all running?

Assuming you have taken care of your transmission first. Ive eben seeing alot of good deals pop up on turbo kits in the for sale section on here.

I ran a Stattama t67 kit on a stock trans until around 400whp and the input shaft snapped in the middle of second. So, make sure you build a transmission.

Lots of used kits popping up, dont buy new.. thats just stupid.

Good intake manifolds:
l26 Upper
Fbody Upper
Stattama Custom Upper (Ill have a passenger side one for sale soonish)
SC Housing
SC/IC Housing

FBody intake will be the easiest to find these days. Cheap and work well enough. That is if you want a passenger side intake.

I picked mine up for ~$100, and just did a few modifications to it. Didn't bother porting it at all. Tho I may do so whenever
it ever needs to come apart.

People have made 500+ on hogged out M90 cases. While not the best solution, it works.

Kit wise, I bought PLOGS, then a baddly made stattama clone crossover/downpipe that ended up having to be totally
hacked up and redone. So total waste of $ there as could have made it from scratch for much cheaper. Was just
wanting to save some time is all.

I will say, the only thing I don't like about the fbody setup, is the radiator hose that has to run across. I'd like
to replace the radiator with a setup where its on the passenger side, and not have to run a long as hose.

Nice setup there.. I think I'll do the l26 with hv3 insert and their lower insert.. If I have that option.. However, I think if I did a turbo setup on my l67 I'd have to turn boost way down as not to blow tranny up.. Also I've got 114,000 on my engine. To many miles to turbo? Thanks guys for all the input..

My block is from a 96... it does have new stock style bolts/bearings/rings. I had it rebuilt years before to be a stock replacement engine for my daily driver. Scrapped the daily driver.
crank/rod/pistons are original with 200k+ miles on them.

Ive gone threw 2 transmissions in under 20k miles. One was stock and the other was with only a vs cam. Both transmissions had roughly 100k on them. Idk how anyone runs a turbo and there trans hold out. I do Drive my car though. ;)

haha trust me I drove mine too... It just seemed to last.. until that damn GTO smarted off... oh I showed him... who could break a hard part first! :( ahaha! If you mod, you will break stuff. If you turbo, you will break a transmission... no if. you will. So build it and build it right... 4t80 swap or GMR parts.

Oh and I am pushing 126,000 miles on the stock block... Right around 16psi of boost when it went into winter storage. doing heads, cam, new fuel system this winter, then moar booosts and powerzz after the winter!:)

Its funny you mention a Gto. I have a 2006 with header back exhaust vararam cold air intake and a custom tune.. I like driving the grandprix more lol

PRJ built me a trans that seemed to work ok. GMR gear/chain, GMR Torsen, and few other things...

I only put about 1000 miles on my trans.. but 100+ passes at track with majority in the 10s, and down to the 1.5x 60 foots.. all runs on slicks.

Only thing that took damage was the crappy ZZP converter. Just couldn't take it. Massive slip. So don't skimp out on a good converter.

Dave over at TEP has had it awhile now doing a monster trans build to take many 9 second runs, but during the dismantle, he said it still looked very good inside.
Just a little wear showing on 3rd. It had 4th disabled, as 4th + 20PSI = not lasting long. So if you go turbo, one key to it all is stay out of 4th under heavy load.

Though I'm not going for 9's or 10's honestly.. Would just like a fast and reliable setup that might surprise a few mustang's..
