Getting horrible gas mileage 11 mpg....po420 code

I have a 2001 Grand prix gt 99,000 miles. I'm going by the mpg on the dash info center. I have gotten to around 17mpg in the summer (po420 code was present then also)..but now I get around 11-12 mpg. I know its cold outside now but still.

I'm looking to order a cat and down pipe from zzp..not sure if its 2 or 3 inch though.

Also will be doing a tune up asap...Not sure how much that code can affect gas mileage but I have to try something.

Or just a buy a quailty cat and not deal with the bull**** sounds like a way way better idea to me.

But its just that too many people are cheap asses.

I'm not totally against buying a more expensive cat, just reading around and a lot of people were going with the zzp cat, I guess for more performance reasons. Which is cool but I see that the code will probably still be present. I just need to get it taken care of, wasting gas at its price, is not cool.

Think about this if your going for a performance gain ZZP downpipe then if you wanted a quality cat that will have to be purchased and welded on. Unless you want to throw a bunch of money into it..give the fouler trick a chance em after all its a few bucks.

Unless you know you want to spend more money :) if that's the case ill give you my Paypal and you can send me the difference and ill put it towards hookers and blow 8)

Hahahaha, Ill keep you in mind.. I Just read the post in the link you provided..very clever idea..thanks a bunch.

I did the non fowler trick when I still had a high flow cat and it did the trick. Just be aware your sensor will be sad and vulnerable hanging down below the rest of the car for rocks and whatnot.
