Gear Indicator Always On?

Bedwards

New member
Hey guys. I had a Viper 5701 car alarm/remote starter installed, and ever since, my gear indicator stays on all the time. Even when I shut my car off, it stays on. Will this light burn out, or cause any drain on my battery? Does anyone have any advice on this? Thanks.

How long ago was it installed?

The light will burn out, but i think it would be wise to measure the draw when the car is off.

it should be 200 mA or lower.

50 mA is preferable.

It was installed 2 days ago. Is there a way to turn it off when my car isn't on? Or will that mess with my remote start/alarm system?

I'm talking to the guy. I'm going to test the battery and make sure it's drawing no more than 50mA with the key off.

He said he didn't touch any of the dash lights. Does anyone know how to make this light operate normally again? If my car is off, and I switch the parking light/headlight switch, it goes off. Otherwise it's always on.

Something is grounded incorrectly causing a feedback of power. Kinda sounds like where he hooked into the interior lighting circuit. The smallest bulb is the one that makes the connection.
