Gas smell on drivers side

What would cause a fairly strong gas smell on the drivers side of the car? It's a 98 GT and it gets worse when driving but can smell it a little bit after it's been sitting. It doesn't seem to be losing any gas but if it is it's insanely slow. After driving for about a half hour one time I got home and popped the hood and couldn't smell any gas. I also can't smell it from the back of the car and whenever I have a passenger they can't smell it on their side.
 


I had a feeling everyone would say check the lines but wanted to see if a different idea might pop up. Right around the time the smell started the bracket holding the fuel filter rusted off the car. I took it all the way off but when i did it wasn't connected to the car anymore. Maybe the extra shaking is what did it and caused a line to leak somewhere.
 
theres two hoses off the filler neck, small one is the vent. my vent tube rusted off and i could smell gas pretty strong. patched it up with some rubber hose.
