Fuel Tank issues....

I havent dropped the tank yet to see exactly what is causing my problem... but every time I fill the tank if I'm not careful it will just over flow out the top of the tank somewhere. I havent dropped the tank yet and am just really carefull when I fill the car up because I am wanting to switch to the plastic tank. The purpose of this thread isnt to find the issue with the steel tank.. but to find out if a tank from a monte carlo of the same year or close to it will fit. I know a lot of other parts are interchangable so I wasnt sure if the tank was as well.

you have a vent problem i would guess and a new tank wont fix that, not sure what tank will fit, but someone here just swapped to a plastic tank, search for it.

is your check engine light on?

You located in the rust belt? Could be a bad tank seal on the pump or a rust hole formed. My tank was way rusty on the sides and top but looked fine on the bottom. I posted the DIY on the tank swap.

I guess you could say that... It was origionally from illinois then went to ohio and finally to indiana. The reason i ask about the monte tank is because there is a totalled monte out at the body shop my dad works at. They have pretty much stripped the car so i could probably get the tank pretty cheap or free.

Edit. Nevermind I thought you meant out of the filler neck.

You probably just have a bad seal on the fuel pump.

Take the access panel off in the tunk of the car and try and fill up with someone in the car watching it.

The seal is cheap and easy to replace. No need to replace the whole tank unless there is a hole in it.

The tank will work for swapping. Make sure you get the whole filler neck assembly, the tank, tank straps, and pump and all the lines from the pump to the steel lines

Ol. Ill be out in the shop tomorrow installing my new tip, HID's and painting my SLP spoiler. I guess thats just one more thing to add to the list. Ill check the top first and go from there.
