fuel pump plug replacement??

I'm in the middle of replacing the fuel pump on my 00 GT. This Delphi pump came with a new 4 pin harness that says I have to replace the stock one at the pump side or I could experience issues. Looking at the original harness and the new plug they look identical. Why would I have to replace the plug if all I'm doing is replacing the entire assembly? I really don't see the point of hacking up a perfectly good working fuel harness just to wire in a new plug???

The pigtail has been replaced already. Plug in the module and call it a day!

(Original harness was a "4 square" similar to an O2 sensor plug. The upgrade or revision is the "4 flat" plug. Less prone to melting.)

Yea, that's what it looks like. The harness in the car currently has the "4 square" end, and so does the replacement kit that came with the pump that's what was confusing.

Cool, well I'll go with that and hope she fires up, and with a working fuel gauge again!

Well that's just fn stupid. Why would they want me to replace something that I already have from the factory, lol...

Either way, pressed the new pump in today. Primed the system a few times and it fired right up. Fuel gauge looks to be right as well, right at 1/2 a tank. Other than the o-ring being a b*tch to seat so far no issues. Haven't driven it yet as I'm still reassembling the rest of the interior. Maybe by this weekend.

But you didn't have that pigtail from factory, as someone else above said it must have been replaced already.

If you got a "Spectra" pump, it fits like crap. Had such a hard time getting it to sit/seat. I had a few problems off and on and tossed in a used one from the junk yard. it practically fell right into place.

THEN don't get me started on the fact that you gotta get that big o-ring just right. Such a chore.

heres the trick, re use the factory O ring, then grease the o ring, and the groove in the tank it sits in. then it all pops in like butter. you dont even need a lot, just a good smear so it slides.
