Fuel problem

I have a 99 gt with 175000 miles on it and every so often when I go out to start it all it does is just turn over and wont start, if I give it gas it starts but I have to keep my foot on the gas for a while then it will idle. I am either thinking fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump. When I get home from work today im gonna rent a fuel pressure tester. What should the pressure be? If it is the fuel pump can I buy just the pump and screen or do I have to buy the whole assembly? Thanks

As far as the fuel pump goes, I do believe they come w/ a new screen on them, IIRC. Check Rock Auto for prices and descriptions.

Have you ever changed the fuel filter? What's your tune-up status like?

I just did a full tune up a couple weeks ago, plugs, wires, pcv, belt, fuel filter, and oil change. Im also gonna clean the maf sensor and throttle body.

You may need to take the throttle body off and clean it. The IAC valve and passage may be full of carbon and not allowing the car to idle properly when cold.

Pull the vacuum line off the Fuel pressure regulator see if gas comes out of the regulator or is in the line. Gas in that line indicates diaphram failure inside the FPR. Can you hear the pump prime? there pretty audible.

I forgot to update, I replaced the FPR and that seemed to make it run better but the idle was still not right so I pulled the IAC and cleaned all the carbon out and replaced the valve and shes all good now. Thanks everyone
