Fuel leak

Someone tell me there is a reason, besides a hole in the tank, that would cause fuel to leak down the passenger's side rear corner of the fuel tank. Right on top of the exhaust no less. i just noticed it after i filled up. i checked the fuel pump door in the trunk, no seals leaking or anything. just bought the car a couple weeks ago:th_shakinghead2:. If i had the tools to drop the tank this would be a much easier matter! Thanks in advance for the help. its a 1998 GTP. it starts and runs fine
 


Never heard this one before. It actually sounds like a dangerous condition.:th_skull: I’d have to go with a faulty repair job in the past, or a plain old age related issue. It is definitely not a common problem by any means, if that is what you were asking. Good luck.
 
thanks for the reply, i was just hoping there is some stray fitting or fuel line on that side of the tank i'm missing, yeah imagine my surprise when i hear something that sounds like bacon going to a hot pan under my car, and look to see its fuel cooking off a hot exhaust:eek:
 
that would be awesome except there are no starting problems and the car runs great. the fuel lines all run down the opposite side(or at least from what i can see) i replaced the fuel filter a couple weeks ago so i rechecked that and it and the fuel lines around it are all dry
 
Could have a hole in the top of your tank. hook up a smoke machine to it and see where the smoke comes out.
 


i found it, it has a pinhole in the top of the tank. i got the tank out and i'm probably going to use some jb weld on it. i'm also going to do some sanding on it and spray the whole tank with underbody coating. any tips on putting it back in?(took me 6 hours to get the d**n thing out:th_shakinghead2:) or problems i don't see with painting it with underbody coating?
