Fuel Gauge Issue

Hello,
On my 2000 GTP that I just got, I am having an issue with the fuel gauge. When I fill the fuel up it will only go up to about half way between 3/4 tank a full. I have just been running off what my "Range" says so far, but want to fix it. I just cant handle not having everything working properly. If anyone has had this happen or suggestions on what to check or try then please let me know. I appreciate all the help. Thanks

Fuel level sensor/sender.

Youtube "bonneville fuel level sensor" there is a guy that does a 3 part video on how to replace it, I've done it, its pretty simple.

It's probably a bad fuel level sensor.
ACDELCO Part # SK1091
$131.79 on rockauto.com

But I question that due to you saying the range is correct.

Due to that I think it could be a mechanical issue with the gauge itself.

Now, you got me wondering. I hate to do all the work/price replacing fuel sender unit and not fix it. Decisions, Decisions. I am not sure what route to go. I do have aftermarket face on my gauges. I wonder if it could be messing it up. The gauge doesn't fluctuate or anything. It just doesn't go past the half way mark between 3/4 and full. Not sure what to try first.....

I would check free things first. There's no point in spending money when you don't have to.

Did the problem happen before the new gauge face? It could be raised, or improperly seated preventing the needle from moving.
Besides that some other free things to check would be the mechanism. If you take the clear plastic face off, see if the needle has too much or not enough tension. Use your best judgement on what is tight or loose there.
Make sure the wires and plugs are in and seated the best they can be, and there is nothing on any tips keeping them from making a strong connection.

I will try to figure out how to check the gauge first. I don't know if it was doing it before the gauge face. The face was already done when I bought the car and unfortunately it's been acting up since I bought the car a couple weeks ago. It's just driving me nuts not having it work correctly, lol....I appreciate the advice.

Lol wut 131!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????????????//

That not even close to what you should be paying for that part.

New Fuel Level Sensor (Sending Unit) | eBay

Follow the video on youtube and just switch out the parts like he does.

I bought that very same part off ebay over a year ago, works perfect.

That price is so much better. Think I will be ordering it Monday. I will try to put it on my next days off. Might need a few of those beers he had in that video,lol....

I know in the video he hammers the ring off from around the pump to get it off, but on GP's its just a snap ring.

ANd it helps to have 2 people to get the pump back in sometimes, one to hold it and the oter to push it down to get the snap ring in place again. I used a rubber mallet and very carefully tapped it down to get it so seat.
