Fuel Gauge Going Crazy

SO I just purchased a pretty clean 2000 Grand Prix GT. One thing that is wrong with it is that the fuel gauge seems to go crazy and read whatever it wants. Its constantly bouncing around from empty to full and everywhere in-between. It doesn't seem to change when the dash lights are on or off. I'm really not sure where to start on fixing it.

I figured somebody here could point me in a good direction.

My 00 GT is doing this again too. I just use the trip ODO to keep an eye on the mileage from a full tank until I feel like pulling the pump again. I usually get about 400mi per tank and then fill it back up. Hasn't run dry yet.
