• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Forward band replament difficulty?

Do you think its worth it for what the tranny comes with? 7/8th chain and the 3000 stall? I'd prbly just try to sell the converter to make some of the cost back.

The forward band is the second piece put into a transmission. That being said... it's not hard to swap it out. There is no need for a full rebuild when doing only a foward band if the rest of the trans was done properly. It's sketchy to me that a new band broke, all the bands should be the high energy green bands in a performance build like this.

If you pop this trans up on a stand or bench, it's pretty easy. Pull the side cover, remove the electrical, then follow the bolts I have in the 4th clutch hub fix thread to remove the valve body and channel plate together. (have new channel plate gaskets on hand $20) Then unload the case taking pics or download the manual if you can find it. You won't have to measure anything...except you should check that chain for stretch. Wiggle the parts out then replace the band(s) if they aren't all green or the dates are the original trans production dates. Then wiggle, jiggle all that crap back in and torque the VB/channel plate back on. Electrical and then the side cover.

Buickman104 was over for a meet one day and he did what you are asking about. Toss him a message, ask his opinion about doing this.. in my mind..it's easy.

Special tools.. none.
