Fluid pumping out of vent

Last night on the way home I ran my car to redline in first and then hit second, and let out. The next thing I see is a ton of smoke out the back. I coasted home, and I checked it. I have fluid pumping out if the top vent of the transmission.

What will cause this? I am hoping its a simple problem, and not a junked tranny.

The only reason for fluid to blow out of the vent on the top of the trans case is if the channel plate gasket blew out. This was fairly common to see on the earlier models or if the trans has been apart and things werent properly cleaned or torqued when reassembled. Unfortunately the fix means lowering down the trans to remove the side cover-pump-valve body-and channel plate to replace the gaskets and this is a pretty involving job.

Thanks Trannyman,

I figured it was a seal somewhere that had given out. I am planning on dropping the trans, and re-building it. I have done some older transmissions before, and I have the atsg manual on this trans. It doesn't look too bad to rebuild. I dont have all the special tools, but I can improvise things pretty good when needed. I am going start this coming weekend on getting it out.
